After receiving his master's certificate, Johann Schellenberger and his wife, Maria Schellenberger, set up the brush company in 1907. Within a relatively short period of time, the company provided work for 36 employees. In the 1930s, however, demand rose for not only hand-made products but also machine-made ones. The company founder mastered that challenge by designing the necessary machinery himself.

After Johann Schellenberger passed away, his two sons, Richard and Erwin Schellenberger, took over the company with its 200 employees. At the end of the war, there was nearly nothing left of the once flourishing enterprise. The two brothers worked hard, though, and succeeded in rebuilding the company, which has since been passed on to the third generation.
